Meet Yinka Thomas-Ogboja, the serial entrepreneur with a heart of gold
Yinka Thomas-Ogboja is a brand consultant with over 10 years industry experience. She is the CEO of D’Acero Limited, a creative agency based in the heart of Lagos. She is also the CEO of Drape Kings, an event décor sales boutique in Lagos. Even though her dream is to build chains of successful businesses, she still has a place in her heart for the less privileged. In her words, “make someone smile from the little you have”, and this passion led to the birth of her NGO called Town.
Thomas O. Women Network (TOWN) is launched their project tagged “Bath a Child, Preserve a Life”, on the 6thof December 2014. #BathAChild as it was popularly coined on social media is a soap project that focuses on the less privileged women in Nigeria. With the outbreak of Ebola and other communicable diseases, TOWN decided to be a part of this health campaign by donating free soaps and educating less privileged women in the society on the importance and benefit of ensuring that they and their children maintain good hygiene.
Growing up in an academic and Christian home where her Dad is a Doctor and her Mum is a Professor, it does not come as a surprise that Olayinka has bagged a BSc., two masters degrees and is currently undergoing her doctoral study at the Walden University, Minnesota, USA.
According to Olayinka Thomas-Ogboja, “We donate free soaps and other useful items to women in different communities and slums nationwide on a continuous basis, and also engage in health talks with them. TOWN also identifies and celebrates Nigeria women, called TOWN Icons, who engage in not-for-profit initiatives as a way of giving back to the society.
“Why soap? We say, why not soap? In Nigeria, practicing personal hygiene is difficult due to lack of resources such as clean water and soap. Many diseases (including respiratory and diarrheal diseases) can be spread when hands, face, and body are not washed appropriately”. Our partners for #BathAChild are Transcorp Hilton, Eko Hotel & Suites, Oriental Hotel, Protea Ikeja GRA, Best Western, Unilever, Protea Ikoyi, and Westfoster Harbour, Wazobia FM and Business Day Newspaper. We solicit for more collaborations and donations this year.
